About Bow
Standing as a satellite peak to the south of the Merrick, this 613-metre summit offers a quiet alternative to its more famous neighbour. The terrain is typical of the Galloway Highlands, featuring rugged grass and granite, overlooking the sprawling, peat-rich expanse of the Silver Flowe National Nature Reserve to the east.

- •The name is likely a descriptive one, referring to the rounded, arched profile the hill presents when viewed from the lower ground of the Trool Forest.
- •Situated on the southern edge of the 'Awful Hand' range, Bow is often passed over by those heading straight for the Merrick, the highest point in southern Scotland.
- •The summit provides an excellent vantage point over the Silver Flowe, a vast and ancient blanket bog system that is considered one of the most important Ramsar sites in the UK.
- •Though it clears the 2,000-foot mark by just eleven feet, Bow manages to maintain a sense of isolation that its busier neighbours lack.
