About Boc Mor

Overlooking the meeting point of three great sea lochs near Kyle of Lochalsh, this rugged Tump offers a quieter alternative to the nearby Kintail giants. The heathery ascent leads to a summit with commanding views over Eilean Donan Castle and the dark waters of Loch Duich.

Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic in origin, where 'Boc' refers to a male deer and 'Mòr' means great, translating simply to 'The Great Buck'.
  • From the summit, you can trace the entire length of Loch Long as it snakes north-east into the mountains, separating the Ardelve peninsula from the heights of Killilan.
  • The panoramic view is exceptionally broad, featuring the sharp ridges of the Five Sisters of Kintail to the east and the Skye Bridge leading toward the Red Cuillin of Skye in the west.
  • Most walkers approach from the hamlet of Ardelve, crossing rough, trackless moorland that requires careful navigation despite the hill's proximity to the busy A87 road.
  • It remains one of the few places in the North West where you can look directly down on a 13th-century stronghold without having to navigate a coach park or pay an admission fee.
