About Bidein a' Chabair

Standing at the head of Loch Nevis, this sharp, conical Corbett offers some of the most remote hiking in the West Highlands. It is a peak of rugged character and steep slopes, typically reached via a long approach from Glen Dessarry. The summit provides a spectacular, earned perspective into the heart of the Knoydart wilderness.

Did You Know?

  • The name is Scottish Gaelic for 'Peak of the Antler' or 'Peak of the Rafter,' likely a reference to its distinctively sharp, pointed profile when viewed from the surrounding glens.
  • Located in the 'Rough Bounds of Knoydart,' it is exceptionally remote; most walkers face a long approach from the road end at Strathan, often making use of the Sourlies bothy on the shores of Loch Nevis.
  • The summit offers a celebrated, close-up view of the jagged silhouette of Sgùrr na Cìche to the west and the sea-loch waters of Loch Nevis to the south.
  • If you encounter another walker on the steep southern slopes, they are either lost or exceptionally dedicated to the pursuit of remote Corbett bagging.
