About Beinn Tulaichean

Rising above the Braes of Balquhidder, this Munro is frequently paired with its more rugged neighbor, Cruach Ardrain. While its southern slopes are predominantly grassy and accessible, the narrow summit ridge offers an excellent perspective on the massive north faces of Ben More and Stob Binnein across the glen.

Did You Know?

  • The name derives from the Scottish Gaelic Beinn Tulaichean, which translates as 'Mountain of the Hillocks.' This most likely refers to the undulating, hummocky nature of its lower southern slopes when viewed from the head of Loch Doine.
  • Although Crianlarich is the nearest town, the majority of walkers approach from the road end at Inverlochlarig to the south. This route involves a relentless, sustained climb up a grassy flank that gains over 700 metres of vertical height in just two kilometres of distance.
  • Beinn Tulaichean is physically inseparable from Cruach Ardrain, connected by a high col at 808 metres. While it is a Munro in its own right, its status was historically debated due to its close proximity to its higher neighbor, with which it shares a massive base.
  • The summit provides a focused view of the Crianlarich hills, specifically looking down the length of the U-shaped valley towards the distinctive 'Munro-bagger’s triangle' of Ben More, Stob Binnein, and the more distant Ben Lui to the west.
  • For many walkers, the hill is regarded as a 'bonus Munro,' a relatively short ridge-walk accompaniment that is rarely climbed as a solo objective without including the more dominant Cruach Ardrain.
