Did You Know?

  • The name Beinn Loinne is derived from the Gaelic 'Loinne', which translates as 'beauty' or 'elegance', likely referring to the graceful, long profile of the ridge when seen from the glens below.
  • The hill occupies a prominent position as a natural divide between Glen Moriston and Glen Garry, two of the primary glens that cut through the Highlands toward the west coast.
  • From the summit, the view north is dominated by the jagged skyline of the South Glen Shiel Ridge, with the distinct peak of Creag a' Mhaim appearing particularly impressive across the valley.
  • Navigating the high ground between the main summit and this East Top is simplified by a line of old iron fence posts that follow the spine of the ridge, acting as a reliable guide in mist.
  • Despite its wild character, the lower slopes bear the marks of the 1950s Glen Moriston Hydro-electric Scheme, with several access tracks providing a somewhat firmer footing than the surrounding peat hags.
