About Aonach Meadhoin

Resting at the heart of the Brothers of Kintail, this Munro offers a rugged, high-altitude experience. Often climbed as part of a classic ridge walk from Glen Shiel, its summit provides an exceptional vantage point over the neighbouring Five Sisters and the deep, glacial trench of Loch Cluanie.

Did You Know?

  • The name translates from Scottish Gaelic as 'Middle Ridge', a fitting description for its central position within the trio of peaks known as the Brothers of Kintail (Na Bràithrean).
  • It is typically climbed as the easternmost peak of the 'Brothers', usually paired with its neighbours Saileag and Sgùrr a' Bhealaich Dheirg in a high-level traverse high above the A87.
  • From the summit, the view north-west is dominated by the sharp, interlocking spurs of the Five Sisters of Kintail, while the distant, jagged peaks of the Cuillin on Skye are often visible on clear days.
  • Unlike many Munros that sit in isolation, this peak is part of a continuous high-level line; you rarely drop below the 800-metre contour when traversing the ridge towards the west.
  • Despite being the 'Middle Brother', it stands exactly one metre taller than its neighbour Sgùrr a’ Bhealaich Dheirg, a distinction that matters only to map-makers and those counting their Munros very carefully.
