Did You Know?

  • The name Aonach Eagach translates from Scottish Gaelic as 'notched ridge', a literal description of the jagged, saw-toothed skyline that defines this part of the Glen Coe mountains.
  • This peak marks the final high point of the ridge for walkers heading west, standing as a sentinel between the technical pinnacles of the main traverse and the steep, grassy slopes above the village of Glencoe.
  • The summit provides an exceptional 'birds-eye' view of the Pap of Glencoe (Sgòrr na Cìche), which appears significantly lower and more accessible from this elevated northern angle.
  • Looking south across the glen, walkers are treated to a direct profile of the 'Three Sisters' of Bidean nam Bian, offering a unique perspective on the complex corries of Glencoe's highest massif.
  • The descent routes from this area are notoriously unforgiving; the infamous Clachaig Gully to the south is a route best avoided by anyone who values their joint health or general longevity.
