About An Riabhachan SW Top
Situated on the vast, elevated spine of the Glen Strathfarrar Munros, this remote summit offers a true sense of isolation. Part of a long, high-altitude traverse, its stony plateau provides a commanding perspective over the deep waters of Loch Monar and the rugged peaks of the Mullardoch forest to the south.

Did You Know?
- •The name An Riabhachan translates from Scottish Gaelic as "the brindled one," a reference to the mottled, greyish appearance of the mountain’s slopes where scree and rock break through the thin high-altitude turf.
- •It sits on a high, undulating ridge between the main summit of An Riabhachan and its western neighbour An Socach, forming part of one of the most celebrated high-level horseshoe walks in the North West Highlands.
- •The view south is dominated by the massive bulk of the Mullardoch Munros, specifically the high, sharp peaks of Mam Sodhail and Beinn Fionnlaidh rising steeply from the shores of the loch below.
- •Reaching this point usually involves navigating the strictly timed access gate at Struy; for many walkers, the real challenge isn't the 1,000-metre ascent, but the psychological pressure of the evening lock-in.
